Dermal Filler Injections

Unlike wrinkles which require muscle relaxants to soften them, facial volume and folds require a dermal filler to help re-volumise and hydrate the area.

Made from hyaluronic gel – a natural sugar already present in the human body – dermal fillers are an achievable way to replicate the function of this naturally occurring substance and can restore fullness and volume in numerous facial areas.

FAQs

What are the benefits

Dermal Fillers achieve a more youthful appearance by:

  • Sculpting and lifting through the mid face.
  • Adding definition to the chin and jaw lines.
  • Reducing tear trough hollows.
  • Restoring volume to the cheeks.
  • Softening nasolabial folds or marionette lines.
  • Restoring and enhancing the lips

Dermal fillers allow greater precision in wrinkle correction and can effectively treat medium to deep wrinkles, at depths which other methods cannot.

Dermal fillers are non-invasive compared to surgical solutions. They are biocompatible, rarely cause reaction, and can be dissolved by injection if there are any problems.

What are the risks

On rare occasion, side effects following dermal filler injections can include swelling, redness, bruising and mild asymmetry as the inflammation settles down. There is also a risk of asymmetry developing after the filler injections, but this is completely correctable and generally minimal.

Very rarely, more serious side effects occur. These can include:

  • Tissue death in the area surrounding injection
  • Granuloma or lumps
  • Hypersensitivity

All risks are discussed in detail with our doctors at your consultation appointment.

Dermal Fillers are not suitable for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

How many treatments will I need

This is dependent on the type of filler used .  Thin filler lasts 6-9 months, whilst thicker filler can last up to 12-18 months.  A single treatment every 9-12 months is needed to maintain results.

What happens during my treatment

You’ll speak with our nurse about your background and medical history at your initial consultation. A treatment plan will be devised and consultation with our doctors which sets out how we will use dermal fillers (possibly in conjunction with other techniques and tools) to create the results that you want.

At your dermal filler appointment:

  • The dermal filler product we use contains a local anaesthetic that makes the injection comfortable.
  • The area to be injected is marked out.
  • We will  apply topical anaesthetic when injecting the lip region.
  • The dermal fillers are injected and we apply cold packs immediately afterwards.
  • Mineral make-up completes the look and allows you to resume your daily activity.
  • The procedure takes about 60 minutes in total, depending on the size of the area to be treated.

Is it painful

Without local anaesthesia, we would rate the pain of dermal filler injections at around 3/10. With local anaesthesia, the pain rating is reduced to around 2/10.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT AFTER MY TREATMENT

Much of the difference you see after your initial dermal filler injection will be due to mild swelling; the real results become evident after 3-5 days.

With lip treatments we advise clients to allow 24hrs of downtime if they prefer a discreet treatment.

What precautions should I take pre and post

  • You do feel uncomfortable, over-the-counter paracetamol (Panadol/Panamax) is fine to take.
  • The treated area continues to retract over the next several weeks until the final results are seen by the 8 week appointment.
  • At this time, we will generally proceed with your second treatment.
