Top 5 Must Do’s for 2022

For me January has been a write off for my New Year resolutions.  Visitors, celebrations and the Omicron outbreak have delayed my “get your shit together” vibe.

However, February is on our doorstep and my reconsiderations for 2022 are back at the forefront.

Need some inspiration, well here are my TOP 5 Must Do’s for your skin this year!

No 1
Revamp your skin care products. If you are not seeing an improvement with your current skin care then it’s time to add a  reputable cosmesceutical serum to your routine.

No 2
Try the BIG B. That’s secret code for B-Tox, muscle relaxant or antiwrinkle injections. This year just do it, you’ll love it and no it is not a poison!

No 3
Non Surgical Facelift. This treatment is suitable for all skin types. Hold off on the dermal filler and tighten and build collagen with this ultrasound based technology.

No 4
Laser hair removal. Tackle that unwanted facial and body hair once and for all, so next summer there’s no strays poking out of that bikini!  You’ve nothing to lose except hair.

No 5
Gut love. Start listening to your gut, heal it and everything else will start feeling better, including your skin. Eat clean, reduce alcohol and take a collagen supplement and probiotic.

Bring on 2022!

Mask Acne – Maskne

maskne - mask acne
😷 Maskne is the development of acne (mask acne) resulting from clogged pores caused by a build up of bacteria, dead skin cells and trapped humidity. Irritation from rubbing and chaffing and the possibility of being allergic or sensitive to the mask material can also occur.
💟 How to treat Maskne?
*Wash you face morning and night with a gentle cleanser.
*Use a non-pore blocking moisturiser, preferably with ceramides. Ceramides are a class of fatty acids that help create a barrier to prevent skin permeability, this locks in moisture which helps reduce dryness and irritation.
*Skip the makeup
*Wash face mask daily, using a hypoallergenic laundry powder
*Discard disposable masks after each use.
*Try to have mask free time 15mins every 4 hours

What Is A Cosmesceutical?

The term “cosmeceutical” was introduced by dermatologist Dr Albert Kligman in 1984 and is derived from a combination of the words cosmetic and pharmaceutical.

Cosmeceuticals are products that have both cosmetic and therapeutic (medical or drug-like) effects, and are intended to have a beneficial effect on skin health and beauty. Like cosmetics, they are applied topically as creams or lotions but contain active ingredients that have an effect on skin cell function. In some cases, their action is limited to the skin surface (such as exfoliants), while others can penetrate to deeper levels, either enhancing or limiting normal skin functions. Cosmeceuticals are available “over-the-counter” (without prescription) and are generally used as part of a regular skin care regime to help improve skin tone and texture, pigmentation and fine lines.

Most moisturisers restore barrier function and water content to the skin, improving the appearance of aged or dry skin. Cosmeceuticals should ideally deliver the active ingredient in a biologically effective form to the skin and reach the target site in sufficient quantity to have an effect.

My skin is fine, why would I consider switching?

Maybe you have “good skin” and wonder why you would bother to spend the extra money on a cosmeceutical regime? The answer really comes down to realising the full potential of your genetically good skin… it could look even better. Cosmeceutical products work at the cellular and DNA level, to up-regulate cell turnover, repair barrier function and reduce the length of your skin cycle. They switch on your skin’s natural ability to hydrate, repair and rejuvenate itself; meaning a fresh complexion, even tone and improved elasticity. Even good skin needs a wake-up every now and then, as well as protection from sun damage. Sun damage will catch up with us all if we don’t tackle it from a young age, with a daily intelligent SPF.

My number one antiageing advice is sunscreen every day, rain, hail or shine!
